June 6 Compassionate Living Tip from Interfaith Paths to Peace

Learn 7 Simple Steps to a More Compassionate Life

http://zenhabits.net/a-guide-to-cultivating-compassion-in-your-life-with-7-practices/

The key to developing compassion in your life is to make it a daily practice.
Meditate upon it in the morning (you can do it while checking email), think about it when you interact with others, and reflect on it at night. In this way, it becomes a part of your life. Or as the Dalai Lama also said, “This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.”

June 2 Tip: How to generate love and compassion for all human beings

June 2 Compassionate Living Tip from Interfaith Paths to Peace

How to generate love and compassion for all human beings

http://shambhalasun.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1462&Itemid=0

The best way to begin this practice is by thinking of a person whose suffering you feel strongly and whose happiness is very important to you. This could be someone you know or have known, or someone you've seen on the street or read about in the newspaper. The thought of certain people naturally and easily awakens bodhicitta in us: we care about them and we don't want them to suffer. Think of such a person and, whether you feel love, gratitude or compassion for them, say, "May they be free of suffering and the root of suffering; may they enjoy happiness and the root of happiness."

http://being.publicradio.org/programs/2012/revenge-forgiveness/

Michael McCullough describes science that helps us comprehend how revenge came to have a purpose in human life. At the same time, he stresses, science is also revealing that human beings are more instinctively equipped for forgiveness than we've perhaps given ourselves credit for. Knowing this suggests ways to calm the revenge instinct in ourselves and others and embolden the forgiveness intuition.
