Please Attend Today's Interfaith "National Day of Prayer" Event
(the May 2 Compassionate Living Tip from Interfaith Paths to Peace)

Interfaith Paths to Peace and Signature Healthcare join together in inviting you to attend a special event featuring prayers for healing taken from many world religions to mark National Day of Prayer at 10:30 am TODAY, Thursday, May 2, 2013

We will gather at
Signature's facility at 12201 Bluegrass Parkway.

The one-hour event is expected to include brief prayers for healing from representatives of:
  • Hinduism,
  • Protestant Christianity,
  • Buddhism,
  • the Roman Catholic Church,
  • Islam,
  • Judaism,
  • the Baha'i faith,
  • Native American religion,
  • Sikhism,
  • Unitarianism and
  • the Quakers.
The National Day of Prayer is held each year on the first Thursday in May. A law was enacted in 1952 formalizing observance of the day, although its origins trace back to 1775, when the first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer and melding the relationship between government and the blessings of God, and the need to pray for an emerging nation.

"This is a time for depth of prayer, for so many of our people," said Dianne Timmering, Vice President of Spirituality for Signature. "Prayer, integrated with our clinical care, heals."

According to Terry Taylor, Executive Director of Interfaith Paths to Peace, "National Day of Prayer provides a wonderful opportunity for people of all religions in the Louisville Metro area to show their unity by joining hands in prayers for peace and healing."

A number of dignitaries and special guests are scheduled to attend, including representatives from the Kentucky Council of Churches, Interfaith Paths to Peace, the Partnership for a Compassionate Louisville along with U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, Jeffersontown Mayor Bill Dieruf and other elected officials.
