ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Umar Cheema is an investigative reporter for the Pakistani newspaper The News.
He writes on corruption, politics, national security and unaccountable
intelligence agencies, bold work that has resulted in him being abducted
and abused. Cheema's unwillingness to stay silent about the ill
treatment he has suffered has drawn wide attention to the nationwide
issue of anti-press violence in Pakistan.
ABOUT THE MODERATOR:
Khalid
Kahloon is a WAC Board Member and a trial attorney and managing partner
of Kahloon, Pasic & Lewis, PLLC, a Louisville law firm dedicated to
serving the legal needs of Kentucky's international community. Before
moving to the U.S. Kahloon worked as a journalist in Pakistan.
ABOUT SIX TOP ISSUES FACING THE U.S.:
Working
with the network of Council CEOs, the World Affairs Councils of America
conducted a survey in Feb/March 2011 asking the Council CEOs to select
the Six Top National Security Issues for the 2012 Election. The issues
selected are: US Education-Competing Globally, US Energy Policy, US
Economic Competitiveness, China, the Middle East and
Afghanistan/Pakistan.
